India international Steven Dias was named captain of Mumbai Football Club (MFC), which announced its squad for the 2017 I-League season on Wednesday. The squad features Indian Super League (ISL) players Pratik Chaudhary (Kerala Blasters), Laxmikant Kattimani, Victornio Fernandes (FC Goa), Thoi Singh, Siam Hangal (Chennaiyin FC), Reagan Singh (NorthEast United FC).
MFC, coached by the former India midfielder Santosh Kashyap for the first time, will host DSK Shivajians in the opening I-League game at the Cooperage ground on Sunday, January 8, 2017.
“The team is aiming for a top three finish in the I-League, playing an attractive style to bring back the fans and give them their money’s worth,” Kashyap said.
Kashyap was appointed in place of Khalid Jamil, under whom the side finished fifth last season in I-League and had given spirited performances in home matches against powerful opponents Bengaluru FC and Mohun Bagan. The players named in the squad were introduced in the presence of Mumbai District Football Association chairman, Aditya Thackeray.
The I-League club also launched the Mumbai Football Academy at Mumbai Football Arena, Andheri.
The squad: Laxmikant Kattimani, Kunal Sawant (both goalkeepers), Clyde Fernandes, Chinta Chandrasekhar, Shalum Pires, Lalchhawnkima, Allan Dias, Pratik Chaudhary, Munmum Singh, Reagan Singh (defenders), Hitesh Sharma, Nikhil Kadam, Siam Hangal, Pratesh Shirodkar, Shilton Fernandes,, Steven Dias (captain), Thoi Singh (midfieldeers), Karan Sawhney, Victorino Fernandes, Faruk Chaudhary.
