Chastened Chelsea signs Drinkwater

Premier League champion Chelsea completed a challenging transfer window on Friday by bringing in England midfielder Danny Drinkwater from Leicester City and Italy right-back Davide Zappacosta from Torino. Chelsea manager Antonio Conte saw moves for several targets fail to come off over the course of the transfer window, but has managed to boost his squad ahead of his side's Champions League campaign.

Drinkwater, 27, has signed a five-year contract in a deal reported to have cost Chelsea £35 million ($45.1 million, 37.9 million euros), which was announced two and a half hours after Thursday's transfer deadline passed.

"I'm delighted to be a Chelsea player and can't wait to get started," Drinkwater told the Chelsea website.

"It has been a long journey to get here, but I am very happy and am looking forward to helping the club win more trophies."

SAKHO GOES TO PALACE

France international centre-back Mamadou Sakho has joined Crystal Palace from Liverpool on a permanent basis, his new club announced on Friday. The 27-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Palace, helping the south London club avoid relegation, after falling out of favour with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

Alexis Sanchez to stay at Arsenal, Lemar deal off

Reports suggest that Arsenal has decided to retain Chilean Alexis Sanchez after the club failed to agree on a deal with FC Monaco for 21-year-old Thomas Lemar.
Lemar is currently on international duty with France and a deal looks very unlikely.

Much to Manchester City's agony, it looks like despite its repeated efforts, Sanchez is set to remain at The Emirates.

As of now, it seems like Arsenal will leave Sanchez only if it receives an improved and bigger bid from Manchester City.

This proves absolutely nothing
 – and it may be that he just ‘likes’ the video – but Alexis Sánchez has just liked a tweet that reads: “ # BREAKING   @ Alexis_Sanchez  is staying at  @ Arsenal .”

Bigest move yet: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Liverpool for £35million

The biggest deal of deadline day morning in the Premier League saw Liverpool complete the signing of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal for a reported fee of £35million.

The 24-year-old has signed a long-term contract with Jurgen Klopp's side in a deal that could reach a value of £40m, having passed a medical and sealed his move while on international duty with England.

He had been tipped to join Chelsea after turning down a new contract offer from the Gunners worth a reported £180,000 per week, but he is believed to have rejected the champion team's advances in favour of a move to Merseyside.

Jurgen Klopp said: "I am really, really happy we have got Alex signed.

"Since the last game I have been waiting and hoping we could make this transfer - and when I got the news he was ours it was fantastic."
