Marco Verratti has undergone surgery on a groin injury, with Paris Saint-Germain confirming the operation went according to plan. The midfielder has been persistently troubled by the issue in recent months and was ruled out of Italy's Euro 2016 campaign as a result, but his road to recovery has now begun.
"The operation was a success," a PSG statement said. "Paris Saint-Germain wishes Marco a speedy recovery and looks forward to seeing him back to his best for both club and country."
Verratti added via Instagram : "The operation went well. I would like to thank everyone who supported me through these months: my family, my friends, my team-mates, but also all of you [Instagram followers], who, through your messages, have made me feel important even when I was away from the pitch.
"I will give everything and more to return as soon as possible."
Verratti has made just eight appearances in all competitions since the turn of the year, with his last outing being PSG's 4-0 victory over Rennes on April 29.
