First goal in maiden derby is special, and Pintu Mahata — a product of Mohun Bagan’s youth system supported by SAIL in Durgapur — ensured he drew first blood against East Bengal in the Calcutta Football League fixture in Kolkata on Sunday.

Hailing from Midnapore district, Mahato has trained under Jo Paul Ancheri. He also played in the I-League last year.

In the 20th minute, the youngster converted a cross from the far post and fired a bullet into the opponent nets.

The 21-year-old youth product got a call-up in the senior team after regulars like Subhasish Bose and Raynier Fernandes succumbed to injuries.

He made his debut against Bengaluru FC last year.
