Aditi Ashok put in a superb effort in the second round of the 2016 US Women’s Open Championship Qualifying event, but still fell short of making the grade for the US Open, here today.

The 18-year-old teenager, who was making a bid to qualify for her first Major, shot 76 and 70 to total two-over 146 in the 36-hole European Sectional Qualifier conducted by the USGA at Buckinghamshire Golf Club in England.

Aditi finished T-14 from among the 73 players who teed off for the qualifiers. There were five spots available.

Frenchwomen Jade Schaeffer (67-72) and Valentine Derrey (73-67), Camilla Lennarth (70-70) of Sweden, German Rookie professional Olivia Cowan (70-70) and Pamela Pretswell (70-71) from Scotland were the five players who qualified for the 2016 US Women’s Open.

Aditi, who had a stellar amateur career, placing in Top-10 at LET events including Hero Women’s Indian Open, as an amateur, shot 76 in her first round and was lying way down in fifties in placing.

In the second round, she was in fine form with three birdies on the front nine to be three-under. She dropped a bogey on 10th, but immediately got back the shot on 11th and yet another birdie on 13th put her at four-under for the round. She was T-12 at that stage. Trying to push and give herself a chance of finishing in Top-five, she ended with a double on the par-four 17th before finishing with a par.

This was Aditi’s second attempt at US Open qualifiers, after finishing T-42 last year.

The five qualifiers from the Ladies European Tour members will join the other successful qualifiers from 24 venues around the United States, South Korea, China and Japan as well as defending champion In Gee Chun at CordeValle in San Martin, California from July seven-10.
