Augusta green jacket ceremony cancelled due to weather concerns

There will be no green jacket ceremony on the terrace putting green at Augusta, due to the anticipated arrival of afternoon thunderstorms.

The Masters will break tradition on Sunday, cancelling the green jacket ceremony that is usually held on the terrace putting green due to weather concerns.

Officials are hopeful that cancelling the ceremony will allow for the gates to close quicker after the tournament ends.

"There will not be a green jacket ceremony on the terrace putting green this afternoon in order to expedite gate closures," a representative for Augusta National wrote in an email obtained by Golf.com .

"Weather permitting, we will have photos with the champion on the putting green following the Butler Cabin green jacket presentation."

Thunderstorms were predicted to hit Augusta in the afternoon, prompting organisers to bring tee times forward by several hours on Sunday.

The final group of Francesco Molinari, Tiger Woods and Tony Finau teed off at 9:20am local time (2:20pm BST), in the hope a winner could be decided before the inclement weather rolled in.

Thirty-six years have passed since poor weather last forced the Masters to be finished on a Monday.
