Indian golfers SSP Chawrasia and Jeev Milkha Singh were in danger of missing the cut when play was suspended early in the second round of the Volvo China Open. Chawrasia, who shot three-under on the first day, carded three-over on the second and totalled even-par 144, while Jeev, two-under overnight, had a disastrous quadruple bogey on par-four 14th and was three-over in eight holes when play was stopped.
Jeev was one-over for the tournament and cut looked likely at one-under or better.
Meanwhile, Felipe Aguilar moved to the front (taking over from Hennie Otto) after signing a flawless seven-under 65 to take a one-shot lead before play was suspended overnight due to the threat of lightening at the Topwin Golf and Country Club.
Back in form
The 41-year-old has struggled for form since competing in an ironman triathlon — which comprises a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bicycle ride and a 26.2-mile marathon — over the winter but was back to the kind of form which has earned him two career European Tour victories as he moved to an 11-under total.
Austria’s Bernd Wiesberger, playing his first event since playing the Masters Tournament at Augusta National earlier this month, stayed right in the hunt in Beijing with a three under par 69 to move to 10-under where he was joined by Swede Alex Noren, who signed for a 67.
Kim Taehoon, meanwhile, carded the second hole-in-one of the tournament at the third — following Rikard Karlberg’s prize-winning ace at the 16th on the opening day — as a superb eight-under 64 moved him into contention to become the second consecutive Korean winner on the European Tour.
Round Two will restart at 6:45am local time on the third day, while round three will not start before 10:00am.
