S. Chikkarangappa celebrates with his PGTI Eagleburg Masters trophy at Eagleton Golf Resort on Friday.

S. Chikkarangappa shot a five-under 67 final round to win the PGTI Eagleburg Masters by two strokes here on Friday. Chikkarangappa got going with four birdies on the back-nine to push overnight leader, Rahil Gangjee, and M. Dharma to tied second-place.

The victory at the Eagleton Golf Resort earned the Bengaluru lad Rs.4.5 lakh, while Gangjee and Dharma received Rs. 2.4 lakh each. Abhinav Lohan (Rs. 1.5 lakh) and Manu Gandas (Rs. 1.2 lakh) finished fourth and fifth respectively.

This is Chikkarangappa’s first tournament victory on the Indian professional tour in four attempts.

Gangjee slipped on the front-nine where he made two bogeys and two birdies, leaving him with too high a mountain to climb. Dharma, second overnight, stayed high on the leaderboard with a steady, bogey-free three-under 69 fourth round.

Chikkarangappa, who trailed Gangjee by one shot when the day began, started brightly. He carded birdies on both par-5 holes on the front-nine, and added another on the 10th. A bogey on the 14th gave his competitors some hope, but a strong finish carried the 22-year-old to the trophy.

Shubankar Sharma - he missed the cut here - leads the Rolex ranking list, while Ajeetesh Sandhu lies second. Chikkarangappa, who has featured in four out of the nine events held so far, is in 12th place.
