Rickie Fowler's 2014 included top-10 finishes at every major, including being tied for second at the U.S. Open and The Open.

Rickie Fowler hopes the "perfect storm" of the past two years will set him up for a breakthrough major in 2016.

The American challenged for all four majors in 2014, before following that up with three victories the following year.

Fowler, 27, is eager to make that combination result in a major win, as he prepares for The Masters starting Thursday.

"I feel like a perfect storm – combine '14 and '15 together equals winning a major," he told a news conference.

"That's the way I look at it. Winning four times since The Players [Championship] last year, two on the PGA Tour and two on the European Tour, it's a lot more fun winning and I definitely get excited whenever I have the chance to be in contention and to have a chance at winning a golf tournament.

"It's something maybe before I wasn't quite prepared for and have the exact belief and confidence, it was more like a feeling of trying to go get it done.

"Now, I believe I can go do it and I want to go and do it."

Fowler's 2014 included top-10 finishes at every major, including being tied for second at the U.S. Open and The Open.

But the world number five said it was winning that helped more than just getting close.

"Obviously contending in majors and being up there in 14' helped me have the confidence that I did when I was in contention and had the chances last year," Fowler said.

"Without having those final days in the majors, I wouldn't have had the success I did last year.

"I feel like it's kind of been all a little bit of a process, but definitely more confidence has come from winning."
