World No 2 Jordan Spieth will return to contest the Australian Open as he bids to claim a second title in Sydney.

Spieth's commitment to play the PGA Tour of Australasia tournament was confirmed on Tuesday, with the American star set to descend on Royal Sydney Golf Club, starting November 17.

The 22-year-old two-time major champion, who finished well off the pace at last week's U.S. Open at Oakmont, won the Australian Open in 2014, while he finished tied for second as Matt Jones emerged triumphant last year.

"I have really enjoyed my previous visits to Australia and I can't wait to get back in November,'' Spieth said. "I look back at my win in the 2014 Emirates Australian Open with great memories as it helped me build momentum for 2015."

"The Emirates Australian Open seems to grow in stature among the world's players every year. The field is always strong and Royal Sydney should be a great test."
