Saaniya takes one-stroke lead

Saaniya Sharma’s one-under 69 was good enough to earn her a one-stroke lead after the first round of the fourth leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour at the par-70 Tollygunge Club course here on Tuesday.

Saaniya Sharma recovered from a poor start to end the day on top of the leaderboard.

The Chandigarh girl started with a bogey and got another double bogey on 12th hole, but picked up two birdies each on either half of her round to record the only under-par score of the day.

Vani Kapoor, who had a birdie and a bogey each in front and back nines, gave Saaniya a close competition before taking the second spot with an even-par round.
