Spieth content with round-two fightback at Augusta

After grinding out a two-over-par 74 at the Masters on Friday, Jordan Spieth said he is ready for what could be a tricky weekend.

Jordan Spieth was content with his fightback in round two of the Masters after lamenting "two really bad drives" that threatened to undo all his fine work from the opening day.

The 2015 champion lit up Augusta on Thursday with a six-under-par 66 that had left him two shots clear overnight.

But Spieth made a dreadful double-bogey, bogey start on Friday and gave another stroke back at the seventh hole.

It was a decent finish by Spieth, though, who birdied the par fives on the way home to get back to four under for the tournament, which was the joint-best score in the clubhouse alongside Rory McIlroy, however Patrick Reed was three shots clear at eight under halfway through his round.

And Spieth felt his game was in pretty good shape for the most part, saying: "I just hit two really bad drives on my first two holes, other than that I actually played some really solid golf today.

"It was just two swings early in the round then a pretty good fightback on the back nine.

"All in all, obviously going into the day I feel like I had a better round in me than a couple over, but making the turn I told [caddie] Michael [Greller] 'let's try and shoot two under on the back nine, if we shoot two under on the back nine we'll get to four for the tournament and we should be within a couple of shots'.

"And with what tomorrow looks like conditions-wise, you know it's just going to be trying to grind out even par on the weekend here."

Forecasts for Saturday are predicting wet and windy conditions at Augusta, and Spieth is ready to grind it out over the weekend.

"I think we just have to wait until we tee off tomorrow to see what it looks like," he added.

"I'll have a pretty good gage from what players in front are doing, I'll be able to watch a bit of the coverage, that's kind of the norm for me on the weekend down here.

"I think we might catch a good break being way late in the afternoon and if we can get out there and have some softer conditions it could be scoreable but there are high winds forecast as well."
