If Vani Kapoor had a slender lead after round one at the Eagleton Golf Resort, it turned into a yawning gulf here on Thursday.

The Delhi golfer shot a two-under-par 70 to open up a massive 10-stroke lead over Neha Tripathi on the second day of Leg 8 of the Hero Women's Pro Golf Tour. Vani signed for a two-day total of 138, while Neha held on to second place at the end of a difficult round, when she carded five-over 77 to see the leader vanish into the distance.

On another day of high scores, only Vani and Mehar Atwal returned sub-par cards. The latter shot one-under 71 to climb up to joint third place alongside Gursimar Badwal (150), two strokes behind Neha.

Vani's score would have been lower but for a hard time on the back nine, where she dropped three shots. But it did not take the sheen off her good work on the front nine, where the 22-year-old sank five birdies.

Mehar, niece of Arjun Atwal, was three under for the day until the penultimate hole, where she made double bogey on the par three.

The scores (top six after two rounds): 138: Vani Kapoor (68, 70); 148: Neha Tripathi: (71, 77); 150: Mehar Atwal (79, 71), Gursimar Badwal (75, 75); 152: Gauri Monga (73, 79); 153: Amandeep Drall (81, 72).
