Tiger Woods insists he is making progress in his recovery from a long-standing back problem but has not set a date for his return to the PGA Tour.
The 14-time major champion has not played since the Wyndham Championship in August of last year.
Woods is the host for August's Quicken Loans National and - speaking at the media day for that event at Congressional Country Club on Monday - was adamant his continued absence has nothing to do with lack of desire.
"I have been practicing at home, and I'm progressing nicely. I'm hoping to play," Woods said.
"That's the overriding question I keep hearing: When are you coming back, when are you playing? I get it all the time. If I knew, I'd tell, you, because it'd be fun to know.
"I'm still trying to get stronger, I’m trying to get more pliable. I'm hitting the ball better. Everything about my game is coming around.
"Now it's just a matter of being consistent with it not only at home against the boys at Medalist [Golf Club in Florida] and try and take their cash, but trying to come out here and do it against the best players in the world. It's a completely different deal."
Despite his injury issues, Woods still believes he can break Jack Nicklaus' record of 18 major titles, adding: "I think his [Nicklaus] major championship record is certainly still attainable."
He also has his eyes on Sam Snead's record of 82 PGA Tour victories. Woods has 79 to his name in his career.
"It would be nice to end up at number one on both lists," Woods said. "That's a long way away and it's going to take time to get to that point but hopefully I can get back out here and play to that level."
