Ishant Sharma will miss the first Test against New Zealand due to chikungunya, a viral disease that is transmitted by infected mosquitoes. There won't be any replacement.
“Ishant Sharma is recovering from chikungunya, so he is not there for this Test match. We are closely monitoring his progress. We will take a call on his fitness after the first Test. For this Test match, the team management has decided that we won’t be needing a replacement as we have 14 players in the squad,” India coach Anil Kumble said here on Monday.
Ishant had claimed eight wickets in four Tests on the recent tour of the West Indies.
