Kapil: India over-dependent on Kohli

Despite the loss, Kapil feels India has the better team but England played better.

England played “better” even as India continued to over-depend on Virat Kohli. This observation from Kapil Dev put in perspective India’s loss to England at Southampton. The 60-run victory meant India can at best look to win the next and final Test at The Oval but not the series, which now stands 3-1 in favour of England.

Kapil did not believe, though, that cricket was a one-man game. Kohli may have been rested for the Asia Cup to be held in Dubai and Abu Dhabi this month but Kapil said, “Cricket is a team game. Kohli is an important player. You do rely on important players, but when you start depending on one player, you make things difficult. Important players do matter but collectively you have to play like a team to win,” he said.

Kapil praised the home team. “You must give credit to England. I think they played much better than us even though I still believe our team was far better. You have to learn from your mistakes, and the only way you can become the best is if you don't make mistakes more often. This series, you gave England the chance to bounce back. And they bounced back.”
