India's opening stand of 152 between KL Rahul and Parthiv Patel was the first 100-run partnership for Indian openers in 32 innings.

It will come as a much needed relief for coach Anil Kumble and captain Virat Kohli that the makeshift opening pair worked for India.

Parthiv Patel was promoted as Murali Vijay was injured while fielding on Day 2.

The previous century opening stand was between Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan, 18 months ago against Bangladesh.

India has struggled to find a consistent opening pair in the last couple of years, after the retirement of Sehwag and Gambhir's loss of form.
