Senegalese Modou Sougou and Brazilian Rafael Bastos found the back of the net and steered Mumbai City FC to its first win in the fifth season of the Indian Super League at the Mumbai Football Arena on Friday.
After a fairly uneventful start, Mumbai drew first blood through Sougou. The Senegalese forward scored with an emphatic finish from close range after Paulo Machado’s cross rebounded off the crossbar. Mumbai's second goal came in the 44th minute when Sougou was brought down in the box by Chhuantea Fanai.

Bastos stepped up to take the penalty and buried it into the back of the net to double his side's lead.
Pune showed urgency to peg back a goal in the second half but its attacks lacked fluidity. Marcelinho came on in the 58th minute and almost made an instant impact with a strike from the edge of the area, but Mumbai City goalkeeper Amrinder Singh blocked the attempt.
Alfaro nearly got one back for the visiting side in the 65th minute but his attempt scraped the crossbar before going out of play.
Mumbai had a chance to make it 3-0 in the dying stages of the match when Arnold Sissoko was tripped in the box by Gurtej Singh. Lucian Goian stepped up to take the penalty but a Vishal Kaith made a splendid block to retain the scoreline.
