Pro Kabaddi’s broadcast partner, Star Sports , is keen on expanding and popularising the sport through its KBD Junior initiative.
On Thursday morning, close to 100 schoolchildren from eight schools made merry and created all the noise at the J. G. International school while being introduced to the two Gujarat Fortunegiants players, Vikas Kale and Mahipal Narwal. The two players chose 14 students from the eight schools and played a match.
What really raised the energy levels, though, was when Kale and Narwal spontaneously agreed with the schoolchildren that ‘masti’ (fun and leg pulling) can be part of the game. “Kabaddi is all serious, but while practising we indulge in ‘masti’ and tease and taunt and our team-mates,” Kale and Narwal said.
The eight schools that will play in a competition (to be telecast on Monday, August 14) are J. G. International School (Sola), Rachna School (Sahibuag), Podar International School (New C. G. Road), Anand Niketan School (Satellite), Som Lalit School (Navrangpura), Udgam School for Children (Thaltej), Asia English School (Gurukul) and Om Shanti School (CTM).
P. Obul Reddy Public School won the competition in Hyderabad and CPS Wardhaman Nagar School won the Nagpur leg.
Competitions will be held in Lucknow, Mumbai, Kolkata, Haryana, Ranchi, Delhi, Chennai, Jaipur and Pune.
