Gujarat Fortunegiants consolidated its position on top of the Zone ‘A’ standings as it overpowered U Mumba 45-23 in a Pro Kabaddi League match at Harivansh Tana Bhagat Indoor Stadium, Ranchi on Wednesday.
Chandran Ranjit and Sachin emerged the match winners for the Gujarat side, which rode on the fine raiding ability of the two attackers.
U Mumba enjoyed the initial exchanges and led 9-7 till the ninth minute after which the Fortunegiants started making incisive raids. Ranjit and Sachin took turns to make a series of raids and foxed the Mumba defence with their agility and craftiness. Fortunegiants doubled its lead to 24-12 at half-time and continued with the same intensity till the end.
Fortunegiants made 16 successful raids and picked up 23 points in the process. Ranjit scored 11 points and Sachin collected 10 points to remain the architects of Fortunegiants win. The Gujarat team did equally well in defence with its Iranian defender Fazel Atrachali collecting six tackle points. Mumba failed to bring much in attack with its key attackers Kashiling Adake and Anup Kumar returning empty handed from most of the raids. Kumar picked up the highest seven points for his side but most of them came from the three tackles he made.
Gujarat Fortunegiants tallied 56 points from 15 matches to continue on top of Zone ‘A’ while U Mumbai remained in the fourth position with 39 points from 15 matches.
In the other match, Patna Pirates edged Tamil Thalaivas 41-39 in a closely fought encounter.
