In a top-of-the-table clash in Zone A of the Pro Kabaddi League, U Mumba put up an impressive deefnsive show to beat Gujarat Fortunegiants 36-26 for the first time in PKL history on Sunday.
Rohit Rana picked up five points, while veteran defender Dharmaraj Cherlathan picked up six. In fact, U Mumba scored more points in defence (16) than from raids.
Rohit Balliyan's two-point raid in the third minute gave U Mumba a 4-2 lead. It looked like a team in a hurry as it inflicted the first all out after four minutes and led 9-4.
Sachin's raiding prowess kept Gujarat Fortunegiants in the match, picking raid points at regular intervals, but U Mumba went into the break leading 17-14.
Siddharth Desai picked up a vital raid point in the 26th minute and followed it up with another raid in the 29th minute, helping U Mumba open up a 10-point gap.
Sachin tried to rally Gujarat back into the match with a few quick points but U Mumba was in no mood to relinquish its lead.
Dabang Delhi cruises
A clinical display in defence from Dabang Delhi K.C. handed it a 35-24 victory over Puneri Paltan in Delhi on Sunday.
The victory helped the home team close the gap in Zone A on third-placed Puneri Paltan to just two points with three additional games in hand.
