PKL 2018-19: Gujarat beats Patna, Bengal cleansweeps Bengaluru

Patna Pirates' playoff chances are in doubt after it lost 29-37 to Gujarat Fortunegiants, while Maninder Singh scored 16 points, including a five-point raid, that won Bengal Warriors 37-31 against Bengaluru Bulls.

37-31 Ran Singh gives away a technical point as he does not cross the baulk line. But the two points to Bengaluru Bulls does not change the outcome of the match or its top position in Zone B. Bengal Warriors goes to the playoffs in second position.

37-29 Surjeet gets one back at Pawan Sehrawat with a block on the right corner and Ran Singh comes to his teammate's aid.

36-27 That one raid by Maninder Singh has changed the game completely. Bengal gets a second all-out within no time and Maninder gets 17th raid point of the match.

31-26 What a sensational raid by Maninder Singh! Amit Sheoran misses an ankle hold. Four Bengaluru players try to roll him over the lobby, but the raider uses his long reach to get over the line. It is a bonus plus four touch points for the towering raider. Bengaluru also loses Rohit Kumar and Pawan Sehrawat with that raids.

 

26-25 Bengal gets the all-out as Ran Singh gets a rare raid point. But Bengaluru is not far behind.

21-24 Surjeet finally gets a tackle point as he gets a hold on Rohit Kumar in a Do-or-Die raid.

20-24 Technical point awarded to Bengaluru Bulls as Bengal sends in a substitute without the official announcement.

20-23 Pawan Sehrawat is taken down by Amit Nagar with a double-ankle hold. Maninder Singh takes out Kashiling Adike to bring his team back into the game. Maninder also gets level with Pawan Sehrawat on 8 raid points in the match.

18-23 Bengaluru Bulls easily takes out Jang Kun Lee on the left corner, while Pawan Sehrawat gets a kick on Ran Singh.

18-21 Rohit Kumar comes back with a couple of points. Maninder Singh looks reenergised as the gets three points in two raids.

15-18 Mahender sends Jang Kun Lee out of the lobby to get the all-out for Bengaluru. But, the defender steps out of the lobby in the process. Bengal also adds a bonus point.

 

12-16 The first point of the second half comes from a Bengal Warriors' defensive error which has been the story of the match so far. Pawan Sehrawat pushes Ran Singh for a self-out on the left corner.

First Half

 

12-15 It has been torrid night for Surjeet, no matter where he is positioned on the mat. The defender is moved to the right cover, but Rohit Kumar manages to get a running-hand touch on him.

12-14 Jang Kun Lee gets two more points, after Pawan Sehrawat tries a tame ankle hold on him.

10-14 Pawan Sehrawat picks a couple of touch points on two raids.

9-12 Amit Sheoran gets a double-ankle hold on Maninder and his teammates jump in to assist him in the tackle.

8-11 Surjeet hesitates before closing in on Pawan Sehrawat, which allow Pawan Sehrawat to get a touch on his jersey before jumping over the midline.

7-8 Bengaluru loses all three main raiders, as Pawan Sehrawat is tackled successfully, Rohit Kumar is self-out after stepping out of the court in the centre and Kashiling Adike is taken out by Surjeet.

4-8 Rohit Kumar gets a touch on Surjeet, who is taken out for the third time in the opening exchanges. Jang Kun Lee is taken down by the Bengaluru defence to extend its lead.

 

3-5 Maninder Singh gets two points back for Bengal, the second point gives away by Bengaluru Bulls after Mahender trips on the raider.

2-4 In a Do-or-Die raid for Bengaluru, Ran Singh is caught in two minds before going for a tackle on Rohit Kumar and it is easy pickings for the raider.

1-3 Pawan Sehrawat is involved in all the four points of the game till now. He gets a tackle point on Ravindra Kumawat and then a touch point on Surjeet. However, Maninder Singh gets a running-hand touch on Bengaluru Bulls' star raider.

29-37 Tushar Patil is tackled successfully and that is the game for Gujarat Fortuengiants, which has been super defensively despite not having not its star raiders in the offence. U.P. Yoddha, which is currently fourth in Zone B, will have to beat Bengal Warriors tomorrow to eliminate the three-time defending champion out of the tournament.

29-36 It does not matter if Pardeep Narwal gets a touch point or two, but Gujarat has figured out a way not to get allout. Sunil Kumar combines with two more of this teammates to send Pardeep back to the sidelines.

29-34 Ajay Kumar gets a bonus and touch point gifted away by Patna defence, with a desperate dash near the midline.

28-32 Pardeep Narwal is sent back this time. Sunil Kumar combines with Amit to execute a Super Tackle despite the star raider trying escape their hold multiple times.

27-30 Pardeep Narwal escapes the ankle hold attempted by Parvesh Bhainswal on the left cover to get his Super 10.  It is his fifteenth of the season.

 

26-29 The absence of a chain on the right cover makes it easy for Oardeep Narwal to get two points and move closer to his Super 10.

23-28 There is the all-out for Gujarat ! Parvesh Bhainswal and Sunil Kumar combine this time to tackle Tushar Patil to the mat.

 

22-24 Sunil Kumar asks his chain partner to wait, but Vikas Jaglan gets a touch and brings two points for Patna.

20-20 After a long period of reviews and official timeout to discuss a Gujarat self-out, its is decided that Gujarat does not get the all-out, Patna raider Vikas Jaglan is out, but Patna gets three revivals which equals score.

16-20 No points for Pardeep Narwal so far in this half. He is back on the mat after Sunil Kumar puts him in a double-ankle hold on the right cover. The defending champion is on the verge of an all-out.

16-19 With raid points hard to come, Manjeet tries for a tackle point with a dash at Ajay Kumar at the left corner. But it was too late to stop the raider.

15-17 Vijay goes on his raid and the wait on the sidelines for Pardeep Narwal increases.

15-15 Tushar Patil gets a touch point for Patna to level things, but he taken out with a running-hand touch by Ajay Kumar.

 

13-15 The difference between the sides has been the defending. A second-string side fielded by Gujarat floors Pardeep Narwal and extends its lead in a slowly-paced second half.

13-14 Pardeep, once again, targets the right cover, but is unable to get a touch on Rohit Gulia. The Patna captain opts for safety and goes back.

12-13 It has been an ordinary match for Manjeet, who is playing second fiddle to Pardeep Narwal. He perishes to a double-thigh hold by Sunil Kumar. Gujarat ends the first half with a slender lead.

12-12 First Super Tackle of the night comes from Gujarat's Sunil Kumar, who is off in a flash to pin Pardeep Narwal to the mat.

12-10 Parvesh Bhainswal looks powerless without the partnership of Sunil Kumar against Pardeep Narwal. Rohit Gulia pinches the bonus line for Gujarat.

6-4 Jaideep for an unnecessary push near the midline on Ajay Kumar, gifting away a point to Gujarat.

6-2 Pardeep makes it easy, as he trots past the cover defender and gets a touch to go back.

4-2 Rohit Gulia gets a toe touch on the right defender. But, Pardeep Narwal does one better by taking out Parvesh Bhainswal with a dubki.

3-1 Pardeep Narwal is tackled by cover defenders but Vikram Kandola's elbow goes over the midline and the umpire deems the raider safe.
