In the second match of the competition, also on October 5, Anup Kumar, U Mumba’s captain for the last five seasons, will lock horns with his former team, representing Jaipur Pink Panthers. Monu Goyat, the league’s highest paid player, will begin his raid for glory two days later when Haryana Steelers takes on Puneri Paltans in the fifth match of the season.
Making an exception
Anupam Goswami, League Commissioner, Pro Kabaddi, said, “We have had to adjust the [sixth season] window to October onwards, in lieu of the ongoing Asian Games that have nearly all the world’s top kabaddi athletes playing for their respective national teams. We will return to a July start for [the seventh season].”
The 12 participating teams have been divided into two zones of six teams each. Each team plays a set of 15 intra-zone and seven inter-zone matches, prior to the playoffs. The playoffs stage will comprise three eliminators, two qualifiers and the finals scheduled to take place in Mumbai.
