A clarification

Regarding the report on the National bowling championship appearing in The Sportstar, September 27, where reference has been made to Abdul Hameed's comment on his name not being recommended by the TBFI for Arjuna Award, T. K. Balu, Director, Tenpin Bowling Federation of India, writes:

"We could not consider recommending Mr. Hameed for the Arjuna Award (because) his performance in the international meets held prior to the Commonwealth or subsequently was far below standards required for Arjuna Award. According to the scheme for nomination of sportspersons for the Arjuna Award, a sportsperson should have had good performance consistently for the previous three years at the international level. But Mr. Hameed could win laurels in only one international event.''
