The table tennis event in the National Games at Hyderabad did not unearth any new talent. In fact in the team's events, it was once again a Bengal and Tamil Nadu final in both the men's and women's sections and the only team to have made some strides was host Andhra Pradesh which moved up the ladder to claim a bronze. The quarter-final match bewteen Andhra and Bengal in the men's section being a real thriller with Bengal ultimately prevailing in a five game affair.

The Tamil Nadu men's team twice had great opportunities of stopping Bengal's domination. With southpaw S. Raman winning both his matches, all Tamil Nadu needed was one win from its youngsters. However, both Sharath Kamal and S. Rajesh after getting into winning positions only ended up losing out to Bengal's stout hearted players. The deciding match between Sharath and Arup Basak being a nail-biting one. Sharath paddled himself to being one point away from victory at 10-7 and then frittered the game away trying to end up with a flourish. Arup Basak just kept the ball back in play and waited for Sharath to make the mistakes which the Tamil Nadu youngster graciously obliged.

The women's team event was a much easier victory. Tamil Nadu's N.R. Indu raised some hopes beating Ananditha Chakraborthy in the opening singles. But Bengal's Mouma Das and Poulomi Ghatak faced no opposition in winning their respective matches. Bengal coasted to a 3-1 win in the women's section.

The men's doubles event was the only section which Bengal faced a reversal. S. Raman and Sharath Kamal accounted for Arup Basak and S. Choudhary in the semi-final and then combined effectively to get the better of Saurav Chakraborthy and Ranvir Das in the final. Raman played a stellar-role in the win and has had his name among the winning finalists for three years in a row in the National Games.

Poulomi Ghatak and Mouma Das were just unstoppable in the women's doubles event and the top ranked duo simply overpowered Tamil Nadu's N.R. Indu and M.S. Mythili winning the encounter 3-1.

Mouma was again in the winning circle, teaming up with Saurav Chakraborthy to take the mixed doubles title also. In an all Bengal affair, Mouma and Saurav toyed with Sibaji Dutta and Anandita Chakraborthy in the final.

Last year's singles winner Saumyadip Roy of Rajasthan failed to retain the title. He was defeated by Saurav Chakraborthy in an absorbing final. The Bengali teenager clinched the issue at four games to three.

The women's final was more one-sided with Mouma Das defeating statemate Poulomi Ghatak 4-1.
