Pendyala Harikrishna (in pic), India’s highest-rated chess player after Viswanathan Anand, gave a simultaneous display against 30 players at the University of Belgrade, Serbia, recently. He won 26 of his games and the rest were drawn.

Among those Harikrishna, ranked 23rd in the world, drew with were actor Goran Danicic-Zuca and journalist Ljubisa Stojiljkovic. “The players were pretty good; some of them were FIDE-rated,” he told Sportstar. “Even those without rating had good knowledge of chess.”

The event lasted five hours. “This was my first simultaneous display in two years,” he says. “And it was quite a nice experience.”

The event was organised by the University of Belgrade along with the Embassy of India.
