India's thrilling win over Australia in the fourth match of the Future Cup in Chandigarh was the team's first ODI win against the Aussies since January 2004.

India's 19-run win at Brisbane in the 2004 VB Series was followed by eight losses and three abandoned matches, before the eight-run win at the Sector 16 Stadium.

India's jinx was spread over the 2004 VB Series, the Videocon Cup at The Netherlands, The DLF Cup at Kuala Lumpur, the 2006 Champions Trophy in India and the presently underway seven-match home series. The Indian jinx looked set to prolong despite the host scoring 291. Matthew Hayden smashed 92 in 92 balls to give his side a brilliant start. Andrew Symonds (75) helped the Aussies reach a comfortable 268 for five before he was bowled by R.P. Singh in the 47th over. Brad Hogg's run-out off the next ball tilted the balance in India's favour, after which some tight bowling by R. P. Singh and Murali Kartik left the visitors needing 16 from the last over.

The host was earlier helped towards its total by captain M. S. Dhoni's 35-ball 50 and Robin Uthappa's 18-ball 30, after Sachin Tendulkar made 79.
