INDIAN Greco-Roman wrestlers won four gold medals to finish on top as the team retained the title at the Commonwealth Championships in Cape Town, South Africa.
In the Greco-Roman section introduced for the first time, Indian grapplers claimed four gold, three silver and four bronze medals scoring 60 points to win the honours.
Hosts South Africa were a distant second with 21 points while Cameroon and Canada ended up third with 10 points each in their kitty.
Kripa Shankar (55kg), Ravinder Singh (60kg), Gurbinder Singh (66kg) and Satish Kumar (96kg) won the gold; Yogeshwar Dutt (60kg), Sanjay (74kg) and Palwinder Singh Cheema (120kg) claimed the silver while Mukesh Khatri (55kg), Sushil Kumar (66kg), Ramesh Kumar (74kg) and Kuldeep Singh (84kg) won the bronze medals.
India fielded some of its freestyle grapplers in the Greco-Roman style after organisers allowed two teams from each of the 11 participating nations.
India won 16 gold, seven silver and five bronze medals in all the three styles. Earlier, freestyle men made a clean sweep of gold medals in all the seven weight categories along with three silver while women claimed five gold, one silver and one bronze medals.
