CS Santosh provides better finish in second stage of Dakar Rally

India's CS Santosh bettered his first stage performance as he finished 37th In the second stage of the Dakar Rally in the motorbikes category. His team-mate, Joaquim Rodrigues, finished 22nd with a time of 02:51:53.

Santosh, who finished 47th in the first stage, had a time of 03:07:41 in the second stage which ran between Resistencia and San Miguel de Tucuman in northern Argentina. Santosh is in 39th position in overall standings. He finished 47th in the first stage.

Australia's KTM rider and defending champion Toby Price meanwhile took the overall race lead on the motorbikes as he landed the day's stage honours.

Price, 29, covered the 275km in 2:37:32, ahead of Austrian Matthias Walkner and Spaniard Paulo Goncalves. Both of the Aussie's pursuers are now more than two-and-a-half minutes adrift in the overall standings. Price finished the opening day in 17th position.

In second stage of quads, Argentina's Pablo Copetti finsihed first and Paraguay's Nelson Sanabria finsihed second. France's Axel Dutrie took the third position.

In stage two of the cars, France's Sebastien Loeb finished first, while Qatar's Nasser Al Attiyah, who won the first stage, came second. Spain's Carlos Sainz came third. That win gave the nine-time rally World Champion overall lead over Attiyah, who won the first stage, by 28 seconds.

Netherlands' Martin van den Drink won the second stage of trucks, while Russia's Dmitry Sotnikov finished two minutes three seconds behind the Dutch. Pieter Versluis of Netherlands finished third.

China's Mao Ruijin and Li Dongsheng came first and second respectively in UTV. Brazil's Leandro Torres came third.
