Dakshin Dare Rally: Samrat Yadav snatches early lead

Samrat Yadav covered the opening leg that spread over 135 km around the dirt tracks near Huliyar in 2:46:35, ahead of Sandeep Sharma and defending champion Suresh Rana.

It is the earliest of days yet, but Samrat Yadav has moved into the top position at the Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare in this historic city on Monday. But, hot on his heels in the Ultimate car category are two of the strong favourites – Sandeep Sharma and defending champion Suresh Rana.

Yadav, along with his co-driver S.N. Nizami, covered the opening leg that spread over 135 km around the dirt tracks near Huliyar in 2:46:35, ahead of Sharma and Karan Arya (2:46.35) and Rana and Ashwin Naik (2:49.12). Yadav is delighted that he has moved ahead in such a strong field.

“Our lead has motivated and encouraged us,” he said. “We now hope to convert this lead into a victory.” They will be hoping to consolidate their lead when the second leg gets underway on Tuesday morning.

The action remains in the Chitradurga region for another day, before it moves on to Belagavi, Kolhopur and the final destination of Pune.

In the Endurance car (TSD) category, Subir Roy and Neerav Mehta are on top of the table, while Raghu Nandan and M. Prakash are in the second position.

In the Ultimate bike category, Sanjay Kumar is in the pole position, followed by R. Nataraj and Abdul Wahid.
