Andrea Dovizioso has ended speculation regarding his future by signing a new deal with Ducati through to the end of the 2020 season.

The Italian, who has been a Ducati factory rider since 2013, is reported to have rejected the team's first offer and held talks with MotoGP rivals Honda and Suzuki.

However, Dovizioso stated on Thursday that talks were progressing over a renewal and Ducati confirmed he is staying on for the next two years.

Dovizioso challenged for the title last year, but ultimately fell short to Marc Marquez and he is fifth in this season's standings.

It remains to be seen if team-mate Jorge Lorenzo will complete Ducati's line-up. The Spanish three-time world champion has largely struggled with the constructor and is said to be pondering a move to Suzuki.
