The FIA has confirmed that the 2015 Formula One qualifying format will be reintroduced for the remainder of this season.
An elimination-style system was adopted in the first two races of this year in Australia and Bahrain, but the change did not go down well.
Governing body the FIA last week confirmed a plan to return to the format used in previous seasons following a written request from all 11 F1 teams.
And the proposal has been approved ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix this weekend.
An FIA statement released on Monday said: "The World Motor Sport Council today approved, via e-vote, the decision to revert to last season's qualification format for the remainder of the 2016 FIA Formula One World Championship.
"The format, where the slowest six cars are eliminated at the end of the first two qualifying sessions before a final ten-car shootout for Pole in Q3, will return for this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix."
