Sebastian Vettel was warned that disciplinary action would be taken if a similar incident occurred again.

Charlie Whiting is to appear alongside Sebastian Vettel at a Formula One news conference on Friday, just a fortnight after the Ferrari driver directed a foul-mouthed rant at the FIA race director.

Vettel grew frustrated at the driving of Red Bull's Max Verstappen in the closing stages of the Mexican Grand Prix, imploring the Dutchman to allow him through into third. After having a message from Whiting relayed to him over team radio, Vettel responded: "Here is a message for Charlie: F*** off! F*** off! Honestly."

Vettel repeated the rant after being told Whiting had rejected his appeals to instruct Verstappen to move over, with team boss Maurizio Arrivabene stepping in to try and calm the four-time world champion. Although Vettel was promoted to third after Verstappen benefited from cutting a corner, he was later pushed back down to fifth for moving under braking while defending his position against Daniel Ricciardo.

Vettel was not punished for the expletive-laden outburst but was warned that disciplinary action would be taken if a similar incident occurred again. An FIA statement read: "FIA Race Director Charlie Whiting will attend the latter part of the Thursday Drivers' press conference, alongside the nominated drivers, to talk about the 2016 FIA Formula One Mexican Grand Prix.

"On this occasion he will be present to address this topic ONLY, in order to avoid questions are not in line with the facts in discussion."

Also attending the news conference will be championship leader Nico Rosberg, Lewis Hamilton, Ricciardo, Verstappen and Felipe Massa.
