Hamilton eyes second Hockenheim success

Formula One's drivers' championship has a new leader ahead of the German Grand Prix after Lewis Hamilton's victory in Hungary.

The defending champion climbed above Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg with his third win in succession last weekend, giving the Briton a six-point advantage.

Hamilton has enjoyed success at the German Grand Prix on two occasions during his career, once at Hockenheim and once at the Nurburgring, but has not occupied top spot in the country since 2011.

Rosberg has also triumphed at Hockenheim, with his first home race victory coming in the last edition of the German GP in 2014, but it may not be all plain sailing for Mercedes, with Ferrari having won the most German GPs of any constructor.

With the help of Opta data, we look at the numbers behind the German Grand Prix.

1 - After 11 races this season, only Max Verstappen has won a race other than Lewis Hamilton or Nico Rosberg.

3 - Fernando Alonso is the active driver with the most wins in Germany (3, 2005, 2010 and 2012). Alonso has had two wins, three podiums and always finished in the top five in his last five races in Germany.

4 - Michael Schumacher's four wins at the German GP is more than any other driver.

4 - Jim Clark and Jacky Ickx are the drivers with the most pole positons in Germany (4). No current driver has more than two (Hamilton and Raikonnen, 2 each).

7 - Only in seven of the last 23 German GPs did the driver on pole not win the race. The last driver to win without being on pole was Fernando Alonso in 2012 after starting the race in second position.

21 - Ferrari has 21 wins at Germany, more than the teams with the second and the third most wins there combined (Williams 9, McLaren 8).

24 – Nico Rosberg won the last German GP; no driver has won there back to back for 24 years since Nigel Mansell in 1991 and 1992.

43 - Lewis Hamilton has outscored Nico Rosberg by 43 points thanks to five wins from the last six races, becoming the leader of the world championship by six points.

61 - The German Grand Prix is the fourth most regular GP in F1 history (61 editions) after Great Britain, Italy and Monaco. Only four times has it been missed off the calendar (1955, 1960, 2007 and 2015).

100 - Daniel Ricciardo will mark his 100th GP at Germany. His best result in Germany was 6th in 2014.
