India Baja, a motorsport event associated with the Dakar Challenge, will be held from April 7 to April 9, 2017 in Jaisalmer. This year, it will be the third inclusion to the Dakar Challenge series, alongside Sonora Rally in South Africa and the Afriquia Merzouga Rally in Morocco.

The winner in the two-wheeler category will receive a free entry to the Dakar Rally next year, and the Afriquia Merzouga Rally in Morocco in May this year. It signifies a prize money of more than GBP 2000.

Marc Coma, sporting director of Dakar Rally, said, “As a former rider, I'm very excited to see the promotion of the discipline in India. From now onwards, riders have a relevant platform to discover and practice road book and navigation, a stepping stone to attend Dakar Series events or even the Dakar itself.”

Both the Dakar Challenge and Dakar Series races are meant to unearth fresh talent to compete in the ultimate off-road race on the planet — The Dakar Rally. Rajasthan Tourism will partner Northern Motorsports India for the smooth conduct of the extravaganza.
