Jehan Daruvala has scored a podium in each of this season’s three rounds so far.

Indian racer Jehan Daruvala will look to build on his consistent start to the F2 season when the championship resumes in Barcelona this weekend.

The driver from Mumbai is third in the standings with 36 points, 16 behind leader Theo Pourchaire.

In his third season in F2, the 23-year-old shifted teams from Carlin to Prema Racing this year and has had podiums in all the three rounds so far, the only driver to do so.

In a chat with F1 TV analyst Matthew Marsh on his show GoF1 , Daruvala said he hopes to be fighting at the sharp end of the grid in Barcelona.

“We test regularly so the field is closer when you come to Barcelona. The expectation is to fight at the front. Our race pace has been the strongest. So from my side, the focus is to improve on qualifying. If we can do that, we can be on the podium in both races,” said Daruvala.

Speaking about his goal to go for the title this year, Daruvala said, “I know I have the potential to fight for the title. It is what I'm here for. In the past, I would have been happy with a top 4-5 finish. But I'm pretty much here to win now.”

“The season has started ok and it is a 14-round season so can't think about the championship a lot. In Imola, I was starting 8th and pushing for the opposite strategy, instead of starting on options (soft tyres) but it didn't pay off.  I am here to do well and to win races so I don't regret trying it.”

“I am trying to win and do as well as possible in every race and not look at the title but at the same time I would be lying if I said I'm not trying to win it,”  he explained.

The Indian driver, who is part of the Red Bull Racing’s junior driver programme, switched teams to Prema after two years in Carlin. On the change, Daruvala said, “Prema has won the championship in the last few years. But it is not only that.

The Carlin car is good but if I do the third year there, I won't learn more than what I already know. If I move teams, every team has a different philosophy, ways of working and different understanding of the car and your knowledge is widened and you can use your experience a bit more.”
