Lorenzo hoping to remembered fondly after retirement

Three-time MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo hopes to be remembered fondly when he decides to step away from the sport.

Jorge Lorenzo hopes his successes in MotoGP will see him remembered as a respectful but competitive rider when he retires.

Lorenzo has three world championship titles to his name so far after a dominant period earlier this decade with Movistar Yamaha.

The Spaniard finished on top of the riders' standings in 2010, 2012 and 2015 and has been inside the top three in his last eight seasons in the premier class of bike racing.

And Lorenzo hopes that consistency and competitiveness are among the characteristics people associate with him once he retires from the sport.

"As a sportsman with a strong discipline on his career, respectful with the other riders and always trying to improve every day and to every day more complete," he said after being unveiled as a Foundation Laureus ambassador.

Lorenzo faces an uphill battle to keep his impressive run of top-three finishes going in 2017, though, after moving to Ducati ahead of the season.

After seven races the 30-year-old sits seventh in the championship having struggled for consistency on his new bike, Lorenzo already 52 points behind leader Maverick Vinales and 23 off the top three.
