Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo have had their differences during their time as Yamaha team-mates, but agree they have learned from each other during that spell.
Lorenzo will leave Movistar Yamaha following this weekend's finale to the MotoGP season in Valencia, with the Spaniard set to link up with Ducati from 2017.
The rivalry between the duo was so bitter back in 2010, when Lorenzo won the title, that a wall had to be put up in the garage to separate them.
And the relationship could at best be described as frosty during their 2015 duel for the championship, again won by Lorenzo. But, with the end of Lorenzo's Yamaha career in sight, the pair have been more complimentary about each other.
"We won a lot, we always were very competitive from the first moment," Rossi said.
"We stayed together for a long time and we learned a lot, both, from each other.
"There was always a great motivation, at the end it was two top riders together in the same team.
"In some seasons, we had the bike able to win the championship, so we fought for the championship.
"So especially for the results it was a good team."
Lorenzo added: "Now it will be better in that we learned from each other, but now we are going to be on different teams. "What we learned about each other, now we can put it on the track.
"Before, when we shared a team, someone had to finish in front of the other one and that's the negative side to learning from each other.
"But now maybe we can take profit of what we learned from the other side."
