Ogier, who had already clinched a fourth drivers' crown in Spain earlier this month, triumphed by 10.2 seconds on Sunday as Ott Tanak (Ford) equalled the best result of his career by claiming second.

Volkswagen was confirmed as winners of the World Rally Championship manufacturers' title as Sebastien Ogier claimed a fourth successive victory in the Wales Rally GB.

Ogier, who had already clinched a fourth drivers' crown in Spain earlier this month, triumphed by 10.2 seconds on Sunday as Ott Tanak (Ford) equalled the best result of his career by claiming second.

Hyundai driver Thierry Neuville completed the podium - albeit more than a minute and a half adrift of Ogier - to significantly enhance his hopes of finishing as runner-up in the drivers' championship.

With one race of the season remaining, in Australia next month, Neuville now holds a 14-point advantage over Andreas Mikkelsen (Volkswagen II).

Ogier led by more than 37 seconds after Friday's first eight stages and remained more than half a minute clear following day two.

Tanak finished the event superbly, completing a clean sweep of six stage wins on Sunday, but it was not quite enough to deny Ogier yet another triumph.

"The main target this weekend was the manufacturers title," said Ogier. "I wouldn't be world champion without the team and they deserve it. It was a tough victory to get. Tanak was flying all weekend. He was very fast and consistent, we had to do a perfect rally."
