Baseball/Softball

Baseball/softball is one of five sports added to the program of the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Qualification process:

Baseball - Men - Six teams will qualify for the Olympic baseball tournament. Japan, as the host nation, automatically qualified. Two teams will qualify through the 2019 Premier12 tournament--the best team from the Americas and the best team from Asia or Oceania. Another American team will qualify through an Americas continental tournament. One spot is reserved for a European or African team through a combined continental tournament. The final spot will be awarded in a world final qualification tournament

Softball - Women - Six teams will qualify for the Olympic softball tournament. Japan, as the host nation, automatically qualified. The winner of the 2018 Women's Softball World Championship (or runner-up, if Japan is the winner) qualifies for the Olympics. The remaining four spots will be allocated through three qualification tournaments: one spot for a Europe/Africa tournament, one spot for an Asia/Oceania tournament, and two spots for an Americas tournament.

India watch:

Baseball(men): India hasn’t qualified for Asia Championships to be held in Taiwan, so participation in the Tokyo Olympics is unlikely.

Softball(women): India is not part of the top six in the Asian Championship and will not be eligible to qualify.
