Qualification process:


The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 will qualify directly 7 teams to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games , while the 16 next best classified teams at the World Cup will get the chance of qualifying through one of the 4 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments 2020.

2 selected teams per region will also take part in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments, for a total of 24 teams divided in 4 tournaments of 6 teams each.

The winner of each tournament will qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.


FIba 3x3 :

The three (3) or four (4) (depending on Host Country place) highest ranked NOCs per gender on the 3x3 Federation Ranking List of 1 November 2019.

The three (3) highest placed NOCs at the 2020 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament will each receive one (1) quota place to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. (those not qualified in first step)

The highest placed NOC at the FIBA Universality-driven Olympic Qualifying Tournament featuring six teams will receive one (1) quota place to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

India watch:

The teams did not qualify for the World Cups and are unlikely to make the cut for Olympics.

  • India is ranked 50th(men) and 101st(women) in  Fiba 3x3 ranking list,
  • India is ranked 67th(men) and 45th(women) in FIBA rankings. (June 2019)
