Boxing

Mary Kom has qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The boxing tournament will be composed of 13 weight categories, 8 for men and 5 for women (compared to 10 for men and 3 for women at Rio 2016), as already approved by the IOC EB in June 2017.

 

Men’s events (8)

Fly (48kg to 52kg), Feather (52kg to 57kg), Light (57kg to 63kg), Welter (63kg to 69kg), Middle (69kg to 75kg), Light Heavy (75kg to 81kg), Heavy (81kg to 91kg), Super Heavy (91kg to +91kg)

 

Women’s events (5)

Fly (48kg to 51kg), Feather (54kg to 57kg), Light (57kg to 60kg), Welter (64kg to 69kg), Middle (69kg to 75kg),

 

Qualification process:

With AIBA de-recognised, IOC came up with a new Olympic qualifying schedule:

•  
• Continental Olympic Qualification Events: 1 January 2020 – 30 April 2020
• (for india- Asian/Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event – date and location tbc
•  
• The highest ranked athletes in the eight (8) men’s weight categories and five (5) women’s weight categories will be allocated one (1) quota place, respecting the maximum quota per gender per NOC.
•  
• World Olympic Qualification Event: May 2020

 

• The participation at the World Olympic Qualification Event is limited only to those NOCs that have not yet qualified an athlete via the Continental Olympic Qualification Events in the specific weight category.
• The highest ranked athletes based on the number of quota places available per event.
• A total of five (5) Tripartite Commission Invitation Places will be available in the men’s weight categories with a maximum of one (1) Tripartite Commission Invitation Place per weight category and respecting the maximum number of athletes per NOC, except for the Light Heavy (75 kg to 81 kg), Heavy (81 kg to 91 kg) and Super Heavy (91kg to +91 kg) weight categories where no places are available.
• A total of three (3) Tripartite Commission Invitation Place will be available in the women’s weight categories with a maximum of one (1) Tripartite Commission Invitation Place per weight category, except for the Welter (64 kg to 69 kg) and Middle (69kg to 75kg) weight category where no places are available.
