Olympic qualification time:
In the Olympics and World Championships, if the full quota of swimmers to take part in a particular event are not filled by those who crossed the A standard, those who achieved B standard will be called upon to compete.

Kushagra Rawat has achieved B standard 2020 Tokyo Olympics clocking 08.07.99 in the 800m freestyle category.
Advait Page made the B-mark in 800m freestyle for Olympics at the Singapore Championships in June this year with a stupendous 8:00.76.
Sajan Prakash made the OST (B-mark) in the 200m butterfly with a timing of 1:58.45 at the FINA World Championships 2019 in Korea.
Srihari Nataraj clocked the OST in 100m backstroke at the FINA Junior World Championships in August
Indians have never achieved A standard till date. India sent two athletes in swimming through Universality places quota for 2016 Rio Olympics.

TOKYO 2020 QUOTA AVAILABILITY
Any unused quota places earned at the FQT will be reallocated to the NOC of the next highest ranked athlete(s), not yet qualified, on the World Archery World Ranking List published the week after the Final Qualifying Tournament
India has secured three available men’s quota places in the recurve event to compete in individual and team events (Tarundeep Rai, Atanu Das and Pravin Jadhav). Women haven’t yet secured an Olympic quota.
An athlete can qualify in one of two ways: Achieve the entry standard within the respective qualification period Qualify by virtue of his IAAF World Ranking Position in the selected event at the end of the respective qualification period.

20km race walk: KT Irfan has qualified for the 20km Race Walk in the men's section. He clocked 1 hour 20 minutes and 57 seconds to finish fourth at the Asian Race Walking Championships in Nomi, Japan.
Bhawana Jat became the first Indian woman to qualify in the 20km Race walk event after bettering the national record at the national race walking championships in Ranchi. She won gold with a timing of 1:29.54 secs.
Men's 3000m steeplechase: Avinash Sable sealed his berth by clocking a national record timing of 8:21:37s in the 3000m steeplechase final at IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha.
Mixed 4x400m relay : Muhammed Anas, Velluva Vismaya, Jisna Mathewand Noah Tom qualified by virtue of entering the final of the relay competition at the IAAF World Championships in Doha. The team finished seventh.
Javelin Throw: Neeraj Chopra qualified with a throw of 87.86m at the ACNW League meeting in Potchefstroom, South Africa at the end of January. The javelin thrower was out of action in 2019 due to an elbow surgery.
Shivpal Singh threw the javelin at a distance of 85.47 meters in his 5th attempt to make the cut at at the ACNW League meeting in Potchefstroom, South Africa in March to become the second Indian to qualify in javelin throw.
Singles: Nations can enter a maximum of two players each in the men's and women's singles, if both are ranked in the world's top 16; otherwise, one quota place until the roster of thirty-eight players has been completed.
Doubles: NOCs can enter a maximum of two pairs if both are ranked in the top eight, while the remaining NOCs are entitled to one until the quota of 16 highest-ranked pairs is filled.
Qualification will be based on the BWF Ranking list to be published on April 30, 2020.
Currently, two Indians are in the top 16 in both the men (Srikanth and Sameer) and women (Sindhu and Saina) - Men’s doubles - 18th, Women’s doubles 21st, Mixed doubles 22nd ( As on June 2019)
Baseball - Men - Six teams will qualify for the Olympic baseball tournament. Japan, as the host nation, automatically qualified. Two teams will qualify through the 2019 Premier12 tournament--the best team from the Americas and the best team from Asia or Oceania. Another American team will qualify through an Americas continental tournament. One spot is reserved for a European or African team through a combined continental tournament. The final spot will be awarded in a world final qualification tournament
Softball - Women - Six teams will qualify for the Olympic softball tournament. Japan, as the host nation, automatically qualified. The winner of the 2018 Women's Softball World Championship (or runner-up, if Japan is the winner) qualifies for the Olympics. The remaining four spots will be allocated through three qualification tournaments: one spot for a Europe/Africa tournament, one spot for an Asia/Oceania tournament, and two spots for an Americas tournament.
Baseball(men): India hasn’t qualified for Asia Championships to be held in Taiwan, so participation in the Tokyo Olympics is unlikely.
Softball(women): India is not part of the top six in the Asian Championship and will not be eligible to qualify.
Basketball
The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 will qualify directly 7 teams to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games , while the 16 next best classified teams at the World Cup will get the chance of qualifying through one of the 4 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments 2020.
2 selected teams per region will also take part in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments, for a total of 24 teams divided in 4 tournaments of 6 teams each.
The winner of each tournament will qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
FIba 3x3 :
The three (3) or four (4) (depending on Host Country place) highest ranked NOCs per gender on the 3x3 Federation Ranking List of 1 November 2019.
The three (3) highest placed NOCs at the 2020 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament will each receive one (1) quota place to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. (those not qualified in first step)
The highest placed NOC at the FIBA Universality-driven Olympic Qualifying Tournament featuring six teams will receive one (1) quota place to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
The teams did not qualify for the World Cups and are unlikely to make the cut for Olympics.
The boxing tournament will be composed of 13 weight categories, 8 for men and 5 for women (compared to 10 for men and 3 for women at Rio 2016), as already approved by the IOC EB in June 2017.

With AIBA de-recognised, IOC came up with a new Olympic qualifying schedule:
Indian boxers dominated the Asian Qualifiers by bagging eight quotas.
Slalom:
NOCs limited to one boat per event. Qualification spots were earned as follows:
World Championships: The top placed boats. 18 qualification spots were available in the K-1 events, and 11 in the C-1.
Continental Qualification Events: 1 qualification spot was available for each continent. These were assigned to continents based on World Championship results: the best ranked non-qualifying NOCs from three different continents at the World Championships earned their continent one boat qualification place.
Tripartite Commission: Canoeing (both slalom and sprint) has a total of 2 qualification spots that would be awarded through Tripartite Commission invitations.
Sprint: A similar qualification process with an additional opportunity to qualify through World Cup 2 next year.
India is yet to feature in Canoeing in the Olympics. No clarity on the participation for the World Championships in August-September this year and the Asian Canoe Championships in March next year and it is highly unlikely that India will qualify for the Olympics this time as well.
Track:
Track cycling is done entirely through UCI nation rankings.
Team sprint – top 8 teams per gender
Team pursuit – top 8 teams per gender
Madison – all NOCs with a qualified team pursuit, in addition to the next 8 teams per gender (total of 16 teams)
Omnium – NOCs directly qualifying for Madison, in addition to the next 12 (men) or 13 (women) (total of 20 or 21 individuals)
Sprint – NOCs qualifying in team sprint enter 2 individuals, in addition to the next 7 best-ranked in individual sprint, and the next 7 best-ranked in Keirin (total of 30 individuals)
Road:
Majority of the places in road cycling are attributed through the UCI nation rankings (122 for men, 62 for women). 2 men and 1 woman each in Africa, Americas, and Asia can qualify through individual road race continental championships.
Mountain:
Thirty places (per gender) will be allocated through the UCI nation rankings and three through continental championships with one each for Africa, Americas, and Asia. One spot per gender has been reserved for host nation Japan. The remaining four spots will be awarded to the top mountain bikers competing at the 2019 UCI World Championships, with two each in the elite and under-23, respectively.
BMX:
In the BMX race, twenty-four spots are available for each gender, with one reserved for host nation Japan. Eighteen places will be awarded to the highest-ranked NOCs through the UCI qualification rankings, three through the UCI individual rankings, and the remaining two through the 2020 UCI World Championships. In the BMX freestyle events, nine spots are available for each gender, with one reserved for host nation Japan, six for the highest-ranked NOCs through the UCI rankings, and the remaining two for those competing at the 2019 UCI Urban Cycling World Championships.
Deborah is the highest placed Indian - male or female at No. 118 in the rankings for track events. So not feasible for participation.
The 200 quota places for equestrian at the 2020 Summer Olympics were divided between the three disciplines (75 for jumping, 65 for eventing, and 60 for dressage). Teams in each discipline consisted of three horse and rider pairs; any NOC that qualified a team (20 teams for jumping, 15 each for eventing and dressage) also received 3 entries in the individual competition for that discipline. NOCs that did not qualify teams could earn one individual place in that discipline (15 entries in jumping and dressage, 20 for eventing). Teams qualify primarily through specific competitions (World Equestrian Games and continental tournaments), while individuals qualified through ranking.
Fouaad Mirza secured an Olympic quota after finishing as the top-ranked rider in Group G for the South East Asia, Oceania in the individual eventing category in the qualifiers.
There are 200 quota spots for fencing at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Qualification is primarily based on the FIE Official Ranking as of April 4, 2020, with further individual places available at 4 zonal qualifying tournaments.
For the team events, 8 teams qualify in each event. Each team must be composed of at least 3 fencers. The top 4 ranked teams qualified. The next best ranked team from each zone (Africa, the Americas, Europe, and Asia-Oceania) qualify as long as it is ranked in the top 16. If a zone had no teams ranked between 5th and 16th, the best placed nation not already qualified is selected regardless of zone.
For individual events, the 3 fencers from the team event qualified for individual competition automatically. Six more places were awarded based on the rankings (ignoring fencers from countries with team qualifications and considering only the top fencer from each country): the top 2 fencers from each of Europe and Asia-Oceania, and the top 1 fencer from each of Americas and Africa, qualify. 4 more places (1 per zone) were awarded through zone qualifying tournaments; only countries without a qualified fencer in an event were eligible to participate in these zone qualifying tournaments.
Bhavani Devi, ranked No. 44 in the world has a fair chance to qualify through the Asian qualifiers. She recently reached the Last 16 in the World Championships - the first Indian to do so.
Twelve teams qualify for the men's field hockey at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Each of the Continental Champions from five confederations received an automatic berth. Japan as the host nation qualified automatically. In addition, the remaining six nations will be determined by an Olympic qualification event.
With Japan winning the Asian Games, it freed up one more space in the olympic qualification event with seven places up for grabs.
4 teams from FIH Pro League 2019, two each from three FIH Series Finals (6) and four through rankings will feature in the final Olympic qualifying event.
The 14 teams will be split into 7 pairs, each pair playing a two-match, aggregate score series. The winner of each series qualifies for the Olympics.
Both the men and the women qualified for the Olympics by winning the final qualifying two-match series.
Indian men, ranked fifth in the world, qualified for the Tokyo Olympics after beating Russia 11-3 on aggregate in the qualifiers held in Bhubaneswar.
Ranked ninth in the world, the Indian women’s team qualified for the Olympics after beating United Sates 6-5 on aggregate in the qualifiers.
The Olympic field is restricted to 60 players for each of the men’s and women’s competitions. The IGF will utilise the official world golf rankings to create the Olympic Golf Rankings as a method of determining eligibility. The top-15 world-ranked players will be eligible for the Olympics, with a limit of four players from a given country. Beyond the top-15, players will be eligible based on the world rankings, with a maximum of two eligible players from each country that does not already have two or more players among the top-15.
The IGF has guaranteed that at least one golfer from the host nation and each geographical region (Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania) will qualify.
Aditi Ashok finished fourth and narrowly missed an Olympic in the women’s golf at Rio 2016. Aditi is currently at No. 35 in the Olympic golf ranking list (updated weekly) and Diksha Dagar is at 56, Shubhankar Sharma and Gaganjeet Bhullar are placed 49th and 50th respectively.
If they maintain their positions, India will be sending four athletes in golf for the Tokyo Olympics!
It will now be possible to qualify for the Olympics on the basis of an aggregate of scores achieved over the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup series, and the various continental artistic gymnastics championships
Dipa Karmakar has been bogged down by injuries. Pranati Nayak is another Indian who is aiming to qualify for the Olympics.
12 teams will compete in handball: the hosts, the world champion, four continental champions and six teams from the World Olympic qualification tournaments respectively.
India will have to qualify from the Asian Championships in September (women) and October (men), which looks unlikely if past performances are taken into consideration.
A total of 386 athletes could qualify for judo at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Each NOC could enter a maximum of 14 judokas (one in each division). Host nation Japan has reserved a spot in each of all 14 events, while twenty are made available to NOCs through a Tripartite Commission Invitation.
The top 18 athletes in each division directly qualify through rankings published on May 20, 2020 ( 1 judoka per NOC).
Continental quotas (13 men and 12 women for Europe, 12 of each gender for Africa, 10 men and 11 women for Pan America, 10 of each gender for Asia, and 5 of each gender for Oceania.
These quotas are assigned by creating a list of all athletes for each continent across all divisions and both genders. The top ranked athletes qualify in turn, ensuring that 100 different NOCs are represented through this qualification system.
Vijay Kumar Yadav is currently at No. 69 in the Olympic ranking list in the men’s list. Indian women don’t figure in the Olympic ranking list.
There are ten qualification places per gender in both the Kumite and Kata categories.

Each NOC will have the opportunity to register one athlete for each of the eight categories, with exception to any category where they already have an athlete qualified for
Tokyo 2020 through the Olympic Standing of 6 April 2020. Athletes already qualified will not be allowed to participate.
Continental representation — 12 athletes; 3 per category
A total of twelve quota places will be available for continental representation with a maximum of three per Olympic category. (Maximum of ten qualification places per gender per event)
The European Games, 14-30 June 2019, Minsk (Belarus) and the Pan-American Games, 26 July-11 August 2019, Lima (Peru) will serve as qualification events.
Total quota: 526 places, 260 men and 260 women. Each NOC can send a maximum of 24 men and 24 women — and one one boat per event for each gender.

2019 / 2020 Continental Qualification Events — Has 68 quota places. The highest placed NOCs from each continent not already qualified at the 2018 Sailing World Championships, regional games or the 2019 World Championships, will get the quota places.
Total quota: 360, 180 men and 180 women. Maximum of 12 men and 12 women in individual events and 6 (3 men and 3 women) in mixed doubles per NOC.
Qualification: Quota places can be obtained in designated ISSF Championships taking place between 1 September 2018 and 30 April 2020 at the following Championships:

Though India didn't get direct entry to team events through quota at the World Championships in 2018, it is assured of one berth each at the mixed team air pistol and mixed team air rifle events through individual quotas in the respective categories.
Total quota: 80, 40 men and 40 women. Per NOC, 6 men and 6 women. And per event, NOC can have a maximum of 3 men and 3 women per event.
Total quota: 40, 20 men and 20 women. Per NOC, 2 men and 2 women; and only 2 athletes (per gender) per event.
This is the first time surfing is recognised as an Olympic sport.
Qualification process
Twenty athletes per gender can qualify for the Games, with only a maximum of four each per NOC. Quota places will be allocated in the following competitions
1. 2019 World Surf League Championship Tour (10 for men & 8 for women)
2. 2019 and 2020 ISA World Surfing Games (4 for men & 6 for women)
3. 2019 Pan American Games
Eighty-six athletes per gender can qualify for the Games, with only a maximum of six each per NOC.
For Team (Continental and World Team qualification) – Each International Table Tennis Federation continent will organise an event to determine their representative (six quota places available per gender). The ITTF will plan World Team qualification event, with nine teams to be qualified.
Each NOC with a qualified men’s or women’s team should nominate two athletes to compete in the singles event.
For Singles – Athletes with the best results at the singles continental qualification events, not belonging to a NOC with a team qualified of the same gender will qualify for Olympics (22 quota places available per gender).
For mixed doubles - Each International Table Tennis Federation continent will organise an event to determine their representative (six quota places available per gender). World Tour grand finals with a maximum of one pair per NOC.
Sixty-four athletes per gender can qualify for the Games, with only a maximum of eight each per NOC.
Quota places will be allocated in the following process
1. An NOC can qualify a maximum of one athlete per weight division through the World Taekwando (WT) Olympic ranking or Grand Slam Champions series. (48 quota places available)
2. A total of 72 athletes will be qualified for the Games through the five continental qualification tournaments. Only the NOCs with less than two athletes per gender through the WT Olympic ranking
Eighty-six athletes per gender can qualify for the Games, with only a maximum of 12 each per NOC.
Singles
1. There will be 56 direct qualification places based on ATP or WTA rankings.
2. There will also be 8 Final qualification places (ITF) based on continental qualification.
Doubles
1. Athletes ranked 1-10 in doubles ranking will get direct qualification, provided their nominated partner has a minimum ranking of 300 on the singles or doubles.
Mixed doubles
A maximum of four athletes (two teams) may be entered by an NOC in the mixed doubles. Direct qualification places will be allocated to the highest rankings based on the combined rankings of each team.
Fifty-five athletes per gender can qualify for the Games, with only a maximum of six each per NOC.
Mixed relay
1. 7 highest ranked NOCs on the ITU Mixed Relay Olympic qualification ranking will be allocated two quota places per gender.
2. NOCs that have not qualified through the ITU Mixed Relay Olympic qualification ranking can participate in the 2020 ITU Mixed Relay Olympic qualification event. Three highest placed NOCs from the event will earn two quota places per gender.
Individual
1. 26 highest ranked NOCs on the ITU Individual Olympic qualification ranking will be allocated one quota place per gender.
2. To ensure continental representation, the highest ranked NOC not yet qualified will receive one quota place.(Allocation priority order: Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, Oceania)
144 athletes (12 teams) per gender can qualify for the Games, with only a maximum of 24 athletes (2 teams) each per NOC.
Qualification will be decided through the following competitions
1. 3 highest ranked teams will qualify through the World Olympic qualification tournament.
2. 3 spots are up for grabs through the Intercontinental Olympic qualification tournaments.
3. 5 spots are up for grabs through the Continental Olympic qualification tournaments.
48 athletes (24 teams) per gender can qualify for the Games, with only a maximum of 4 athletes (2 teams) each per NOC.
1. The winner of the FIVB Beach Volleyball Senior World Championships will earn one quota place.
2. Two play-off winners of the FIVB Beach Volleyball Olympic qualification tournament will each earn one place.
3. The 15 highest ranked teams in both men and women’s Olympic Ranking will each earn one quota place.
4. The highest placed NOC/NF of each Beach Volleyball Continental Cup will earn one quota place.
98 athletes per gender can qualify for the Games.
All quota places, except the host NOC, will be allocated to the athletes in weightlifting.
1. 56 places each for men and women are available where athletes will be qualified based on World points from IWF Absolute Ranking.
2. 35 places each for men and women are available where athletes will be qualified based on continental points from IWF Absolute Ranking.
3. 4 places each for men and women are available through the tripartite invitation.
Per medal event
1. An NOC is allocated 8 quota places based on highest ranks on World points from IWF Absolute Ranking.
2. An NOC is allocated 5 quota places based on highest ranks on Continental points from IWF Absolute Ranking.
3. Both host and tripartite invitation NOCs receive a maximum of one quota place.
192 men and 96 women can qualify for the Games. A total of 18 places (12 men, 6 women) is allocated per NOC.
1. 108 places are up for grabs at the 2019 Senior World Championships. The first six highest placed athletes in each of the 18 Olympic weight categories can win one quota place for their NOC.
2. 144 quota places (36 America, 36 Asia, 36 Europe, 36 Oceania/Africa) are available for both men and women at the Continental qualification tournaments. The two highest placed athletes at each Continental tournament in each of the 18 Olympic weight categories can win one quota place for their NOC.
3. 36 quota places are up for grabs at the World qualification tournament. Two highest placed athletes in each of the 18 Olympic weight categories can win one quota place for their NOC.
Four Indians have so far secured the Olympic quota.
Vinesh Phogat (53 kg freestyle) earned India's first Wrestling quota for Tokyo Olympics by winning a bronze at the World Wrestling Championship in Kazakhstan
Bajrang Punia (65 kg) and Ravi Kumar(57kg) also bagged Olympic berths by reaching the semifinals of the World Championships.
Deepak Punia won the silver in the 86 kg category of the World championships to qualify for Tokyo 2020.
