India will take on Great Britain in the bronze medal game on Friday, the same day as the summit clash. Tomorrow, the Indian men's side will square off against Germany in another match for the bronze. Meanwhile, Australia and Belgium will fight it out for gold later in the evening.

MATCH REPORT -

So Argentina will face the Netherlands in the women's hockey final at the Tokyo Olympics. A brace from captain Noel Barrionuevo cancelled out Gurjit Kaur's opener for India in the third quarter and the Argentine outfit held on to the 2-1 lead till the very end.

60' ANOTHER AMAZING SAVE! Argentina shot-stopper Belen Succi stops Navneet Kaur's deflection at close range with her right leg. India loses possession in the process.

56' VERY CLOSE! Eugenia Trinchinetti makes a good move forward on the right flank. She sends a cross towards Micaela Retegui the middle. But Indian custodian Savita comes off her line and averts the danger.

52' GOOD SAVE! This was another Gurjit Kaur penalty corner. Argentina goalkeeper Belen Succi dived full stretch to her right and pushed the ball away from danger.

50' WHAT A CHANCE FOR INDIA! Navneet Kaur executes a one-two pass with Monika Malik and enters the circle. She tries to shoot but the ball goes out of play. Lalremsiami was close and it missed her stick by a whisker.

48' It's now or never for India as the team continues to apply pressure on the Argentine defence. Rani Rampal wins a couple of free-hits near the shooting circle. But she's not able to convert them into a penalty corner.

THE FOURTH AND FINAL QUARTER IS UNDERWAY!

THE FOURTH QUARTER IS DONE AND DUSTED!

45' India has been quite impressive in the last few minutes. But the players aren't able to have a shot on target. Finally, the Indians are playing a high line on the field.

42' India needs to put numbers forward. Argentina has dominated the possessional, passing and attacking stats in this game so far. Sjoerd Marijne's side must keep pressurising the Argentine defence from here.

39' GREEN CARD! India is down to 10 on the field now. Neha Goyal makes her way to the bench after being penalised by the umpire for a mistimed challenge.

36' GOOOAAAALLLL!!!! ARGENTINA 2 - 1 INDIA!!! The skipper scores again. Barrionuevo converted another penalty corner for the Argentines. But there's a long pause in play as the umpire reviews this for dangerous play. The goal is given in the end.

33' Argentina exhausts its review in an attempt to win a penalty corner. Forward Delfina Merino sent a cross towards the middle and the umpire had deemed it dangerous play.

32' India takes the ball forward. Neha receives a good pass on the left flank. She wins a free-hit first and then tries to set up a teammate inside the circle but the Argentina defenders stay solid and avert the danger.

THE THIRD QUARTER STARTS!

 

A goal from Argentina skipper Noel Barrionuevo has cancelled out Gurjit Kaur's opener for India as both teams are level 1-1 at the end of the first half. Thirty minutes to go. The winner of this game will face the Netherlands in the summit clash at the Tokyo Olympics.

THE SECOND QUARTER IS OVER!

30' Navneet Kaur sets up Neha Goyal up front. She tries to dribble past an Argentina defender but ends up losing the ball. There are calls for a penalty corner from the Indians, but the umpire doesn't award anything.

28' PC FOR ARGENTINA! Agustina Gorzelany releases a shot on target. But Deep Grace Ekka makes a crucial block and India clears the ball away from the circle.

27' BACK-TO-BACK PENALTY CORNERS FOR INDIA! Gurjit Kaur's first two drag flicks are saved and Argentina uses its referral to deny India a third PC, which the umpire had initially awarded.

25' Eugenia Trinchinetti takes a shot along the ground from long. It misses everyone and goes into goal. The umpire signals it as wide as the play continues.

22' VERY CLOSE! Argentina forward Julieta Jankunas was in a very good position after receiving the ball at close range. But she wasn't able to release a shot.

21' CHANCE FOR INDIA! Vandana Katariya sprints forward with the ball on the right flank. She slips a pass inside the circle to Lalremsiami, who is unable to control it properly as the Indians miss a glorious opportunity.

18' GOOOAAAALLLL!!!!!!! ARGENTINA 1 - 1 INDIA!!! This was the third penalty corner for the Argentines and skipper Noel Barrionuevo finds the back of the net with this one.

17' PC FOR ARGENTINA! The Argentine players go for a variation. Rocio Sanchez came up with the final shot after receiving a pass from teammate Sofia Toccalino. But the umpire has blown the w

A solitary goal from Gurjit Kaur separates the two teams at the end of the opening 15 minutes. Three more quarters to go. Stay tuned!

THE FIRST QUARTER ENDS!

15' INJURIES! India's Navneet Kaur and Argentina's Gorzelany collide with each other and both players are injured. There's a pause in play as they are being treated.

13' Foul on Rani Rampal. India wins a free-hit inside the 23-metre line. But the Argentine players immediately win the ball back and initiate a counter-attack.

11' Good start from the Indians here. The team is attacking and defending well. Argentina looks a bit rusty. Sushila Chanu comes up with a good tackle to dispossess an opposition player.

8' PENALTY CORNER FOR ARGENTINA! Agustina Gorzelany is the drag-flicker. She fires a shot on target. But once again, the Indian defenders avert the danger.

5' CHANCE FOR ARGENTINA! Maria Jose Granatto takes the ball forward on the left flank. She evades a couple of tackles and enters the circle. However, the Indian defence clears the ball away.

2' GOOOOAAAAALLLL!!!!!!! INDIA TAKES A 1-0 LEAD!!!! GURJIT KAUR SCOREESSS!! Captain Rani Rampal won the penalty corner for the Indians and Gurjit Kaur converted it with precision.

In case you missed it, the Netherlands will play in the women's hockey finals for a fifth straight time at the Olympics after completing an inspiring 5-1 triumph over the 2016 Rio Olympic champion Great Britain at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Games on Wednesday.

PREVIEW:

India and Argentina will play the first women's hockey semifinal of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday at the Oi Hockey Stadium's North Pitch.

Argentina defeated Rio Games bronze-medallist Germany 3-0 to qualify for the semifinals.

On the other hand, India pulled off a big surprise, beating the three-time Olympic champion and World No.2 Australia 1-0 to become the second team to reach the last-four stage.

PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR

Argentina:  Ace defender   Agustina Gorzelany has scored three penalty-corner goals in the six matches she has played so far.

Meanwhile, forward Agustina Albertarrio has managed two field goals and will aim to improve her goal-scoring record against India.

India:  Forward Vandana Katariya became the first Indian woman to score a hat-trick in hockey at the Olympics in Tokyo. The team will hope that Vandana maintains her form in the semis as well.

Goalkeeper Savita Punia, who made nine saves against the mighty Aussies on Monday, will also be crucial for India as it eyes a final berth.

HEAD TO HEAD RECORD

Before the Olympics, the Indian women's hockey team toured Argentina. Seven matches were played in total. India faced Argentina's junior women's side in two games, that ended in draws.

Later, the Indians played Argentina's B team twice and lost both times. Three outings against the Argentinian senior team followed. India drew one and lost the other two.
