Tai Tzu-Ying beats PV Sindhu 21-18 21-12 to enter the final of the women's singles badminton at the Tokyo Olympics.
- Game 2: (11-7) Tai with a four-point advantage has pushed Sindhu into a corner and this will require some turnaround for the Indian to win the game. She needs to win this game to advance into the final.
- Game 2: (7-4) Tai picked four straight points to put Sindhu under some pressure but the Rio silver medallist is known to bounce back from tough situations and this is going to be a gruelling one.
- Game 1 (21-18) - Game Tai. Sindhu took the lead but after a long rally Tai earned two game points and a smash down the line gets Tai the game.
- Game 1 (15-14) - A fter the break, Tai levelled the game but an unforced error gave Sindhu a one-point lead but a long shot helped Tai draw level and took the lead after Sindhu missed a deflection near the net. But the World Champion snatched the lead back at 15-14.
- Game 1 (11-8): Sindhu continued to stretch the lead as the Indian is chasing her second consecutive Olympic medal and only two players have done that. Tai called for a challenge and lost it as the shuttle landed outaside the line. At 8-4, Sindu played wide of the sideline to give Tai a point. Sindhu maintained the lead at 9-6 but Tail with a sharp backhand smash and subtle play near the net exhibited her skills. At mid-game interval, it was advantage Sindhu.
- Game 1 (5-2) : Tai takes the first two points and that was quick as she stuns Sindhu with a brutal body smash but the Indian was quick to notch the first points on board. After drawing level, Sindhu toook the first lead at 3-2 and then forced Tai for a full-stretched dive to make it 4-2 and then took a three-point lead at 5-2.
- Right then we are all set for one of the most exciting matches and the two players are on the court. Sindhu has chosen to start from the near side of the court and they are warming up.
- Either Sindhu or Tai will meet Chen in the Olympic final while the loser will face Bingjiao for the Bronze medal match.
- In the other semifinal, Chen Yu Fei storms into the Olympic final as she beats He Bingjiao 21-16 13-21 21-12.
- PV Sindhu trails Tai 5-13 in the head-to-head, and has lost the last three times they had played against each other.
- The match will be underway after the women's singles semifinal between Chen Yufei and He Bingjiao, which is also happening on Court 1.
- Head to Head Record: Out of the 18 matches that both players have played, Tai Tzu-Ying leads 13-5 against Sindhu.

The fight against Yamaguchi
With monstrous smashes, lung-exhausting rallies and the deftest of disguised drop shots, P. V. Sindhu posted a gritty win over Akane Yamaguchi in an epic encounter. Sindhu’s 21-13, 22-20 victory propelled her into the semifinals, where she will meet her long-time rival, the second-seed Tai Tzu Ying.

Mixed doubles (final): Wang Yi Lyu and Huang Dong Ping (Chn) bt Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong (Chn) 21-17, 17-21, 21-19; (for bronze medal): Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino (Jpn) bt Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet (Hkg) 21-17, 23-21.
Men’s doubles (semifinals): Lee Yang and Wang Chi-Lin (Tpe) bt Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan (Ina) 21-11, 21-10; Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen (Chn) bt Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik (Mas) 24-22, 21-13.
“I’m happy but it’s not over yet. For me it’s time to go back, relax and get ready for the next match. I’m happy but I need to prepare for the next match. There were some very long rallies. The second game was very important, I was leading and Akane came back — so I couldn’t relax. On my side there were a few errors. I wasn’t nervous even though she was at game point, my coach was saying: ‘It’s okay, keep the focus and you’ll get there’. He was constantly supporting me and that got me by and I’m happy I got back in two games,” Sindhu to BWF after quarterfinal victory.
