Ajay Jayaram only Indian to reach quarters in Indonesia GP

Ajay Jayaram emerged as the only Indian shuttler to make the quarterfinals of Indonesia Grand Prix Gold, beating compatriot Parupalli Kashyap and local lad Reksy Aureza Megananda. Other Indians in the fray were H S Prannoy and B Sai Praneeth.

Ajay Jayaram emerged as the only Indian shuttler to make the quarterfinals of Indonesia Grand Prix Gold, beating compatriot Parupalli Kashyap and local lad Reksy Aureza Megananda here today.

The third seeded Jayaram notched up a convincing 21-7 21-12 win over comeback-man Kashyap in his second round match and then rallied to get the better of Megananda 18-21 21-12 21-19 to enter the quarterfinals of the tournament at the Dome Stadium.

Besides Kashyap, H S Prannoy and B Sai Praneeth were the other Indian shuttlers whose campaign ended on the day.

While Sai Praneeth lost to Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand 21-14 21-13 after winning his second round match against Kantaphon Wangcharoen, also from Thailand, 18-21 21-14 21-15, Prannoy defeated Joo Ven Soong of Malaysia 21-17 21-9 before going down 19-21 21-19 23-21 to China’s Huang Yuxiang, seeded 12th in the tournament.
