Tamil Nadu’s Asian junior champion K. Kamalraj made the cut in the men's triple jump.

Asian junior champion Ashish Jakhar finished sixth in men’s hammer throw while triple jumper K. Kamalraj and javelin thrower Sahil Silwal qualified for the final of the IAAF World under-20 athletics championships on Friday.

Ashish was in the third spot with 74.59m after his second attempt but while many others took off with big throws, the Haryana youngster could not better his second round mark. Britain’s Jake Norris won the gold with 80.65m.

Kamalraj, Sahil in Final

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu’s Asian junior champion K. Kamalraj, coming back from an injury, was the second-best qualifier in the men’s triple jump with 15.98m while Haryana’s Sahil (73.22m) made the cut as the fifth best in the qualification round.

The other javelin thrower, Arshdeep, who was close to the 69m range in the Federation Cup in Coimbatore a few months ago, could only manage a best of 63.05 and crashed out.

Beant Singh, who was seen as a bright young prospect a couple of years ago, also failed to qualify for the 800m final, finishing 15th overall with 1:49.66s in the heats.

The Indian 4x100m men’s relay team also crashed out after finishing last in its heat with 41.11s.
