Brij Kishore, coach of Aruna Reddy, no more

Reddy, his most famous trainee, became the first Indian to win a medal in World Cup gymnastics recently.

Gymnastics coach Brij Kishore of Sports Authority of Telangana State, whose most famous trainee is B. Aruna Reddy who became the first Indian to win a medal (bronze) in World Cup gymnastics recently in Melbourne, passed away here on Thursday morning.

He was 50 and survived by wife and two daughters.

Brij Kishore has been getting treatment in a cancer hospital for the last few weeks as the dreaded disease was detected only in an advanced stage.

Telangana Sports Minister Padma Rao Goud handed over a cheque of Rs. 25 lakh to his family members. The Telangana Sports Journalists Association contributed with Rs 25,000.

Reddy, now in Gold Coast for the Commonwealth Games, expressed profound shock at the demise of her coach through her family members.

One of the first things she did on her return after winning the World Cup bronze medallist was to call on the ailing coach.
