Mark Cavendish has set his sights on wearing the yellow jersey at the Tour de France and winning Olympic gold this year. The 30-year-old Dimension Data rider has made the switch from Etixx-Quick-Step, a team he was part of for three years.
Cavendish is a 26-time stage winner at the Tour and claimed the points classification in 2011, but he has yellow in mind in 2016. "I'd like to wear the yellow jersey in the Tour de France," he said on Tuesday. "It is the only Grand Tour leader's jersey I haven't worn yet. It starts with a sprint again this year. I would like to compete. I would like to win at the Olympic Games and there is the World Road Championships at the end of the year as well, so it is a pretty full on year."
Cavendish is yet to qualify for the Rio Games, but is set to compete at the UCI Track Cycling World Cup stop in Hong Kong on January 16-17. But he doubts he is in good enough condition to win.
"I'm not going to be winning the Hong Kong World Cup. If I win the Hong Kong World Cup I might as well f*** off the Olympic Games you know. It's January," Cavendish said. "And the Olympic Games is in August, the Tour de France is in July. I've got a road season now. So if I'm flying now in January I might as well just go and sit at home for the rest of the year."
