Dipa hopeful of a December return

The ace gymnast said that she would take a decision about continuing with the risky Produnova vault or try some thing else in due course of time in consultation with the coaches.

Dipa Karmakar's focus is on the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games next year.

Ace gymnast Dipa Karmakar who produces the risky Produnova vault in a few seconds, endured the men’s tennis final in the Fenesta National championship for nearly an hour and a half. The ace gymnast who had finished fourth in the Rio Olympics in capturing the imagination of the entire nation, was polite in saying that she liked her maiden experience of watching a tennis match.

On being asked by the media to explain her position with regard to her return to international competition, Dipa said that she was still going through her fitness regimen and was looking forward to returning to the vault around December.

The 24-year-old Dipa who had placed fifth in the World Championship and has medals from the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Championship, said that as sports persons there was no guarantee of competing in every international tournament.

Dipa said that she would take a decision about continuing with the risky Produnova vault or try some thing else in due course of time in consultation with the coaches. She said that the focus would be to get ready for the Commonwealth Games and later the Asian Games next year.

"I am not sure about what to do. May try another vault. Nothing has been decided yet. I am yet to start practice’’, said Dipa, quite relaxed and with a smile.
